Kiev, October 27 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) - The Ukrainian government plans to abandon state control and regulation of food prices from the social list, which includes bread, flour, pasta, rice, beef, eggs and others (21 items in total).
The Kiev weekly “Business Capital” writes about this, reminding that today the trade margin on socially significant products cannot exceed 15% of the purchase price, which is monitored by the State Inspectorate for Price Control.

“But trade has already learned how to bypass the established restriction,” the publication reports. – For example, the name of a product is indicated in such a way that it does not fall into the category of socially significant. Thus, after deboning in the meat shops of supermarkets, ordinary meat is sold either as a product of the highest or as a second category. While socially significant products include exclusively meat of the first category. Manufacturers of food products use similar techniques. For example, by changing the recipe, they produce new varieties of bread that are not mentioned in the list of socially significant ones.”
At the same time, the government considered it necessary to meet manufacturers and retail chains halfway, and not tighten control, for which they prepared a bill to abolish state control over prices for social goods.
“Processors and traders are looking forward to the liberalization of pricing for food products, anticipating an increase in profits,” states Business Capital, clarifying that the 15 percent limit on the markup on social products will remain for only three groups of goods - milk, wheat and rye-wheat of bread.
