Power lines blown up by terrorists on the border with Crimea have been restored
Energy workers have restored power lines between Crimea and the Kherson region, blown up by radicals in November 2015.
Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov announced this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The high-voltage line will protect the neighboring region in case of sabotage by Ukrainian nationalists.
The minister clarified that the Dzhankoy – Kakhovka line has already been energized, and the Ostrovskaya – Kakhovka line is next.
“The technical capability has been created to supply voltage to supply electricity to consumers and their own needs in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions in the event of force majeure due to the destructive actions of Ukraine,” Shulginov explained.
He added that a technical possibility has been created for the subsequent synchronization of the Russian energy system with the energy systems of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
Earlier, the head of the VGA of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, spoke about the development of plans to connect critical infrastructure to the systems of the peninsula. In addition to sabotage, acts of sabotage are not uncommon. So on July 13, employees of three main electrical substations in the Kherson region left their jobs after receiving threatening calls from the Kyiv authorities.
This could have led to serious problems in the region’s power supply if Krymenergo’s reserve teams had not come to the rescue.
In addition, after the integration of energy systems, Crimea will be able to pump excess electricity to the Krasnodar Territory. The energy bridge laid along the bottom of the Kerch Strait continues to operate, and at night Crimea shares electricity with the neighboring energy-deficient region.
With the connection of the Zaporozhye NPP, the capabilities of the energy bridge in reverse mode will increase significantly.
In November 2015, power lines on the border with Crimea were blown up by members of the Crimean Tatar battalion named after Noman Celebidzhikhan, which is included in the list of prohibited terrorist organizations.
For more than a month, the peninsula lived with electricity supply for an hour or two a day, until a powerful cable was laid from the Krasnodar Territory. Subsequently, two gas turbine thermal power plants were built in Crimea to supply the region with electricity.
