View from Donetsk: We need to go to a referendum to stop Kyiv’s violent actions
Donetsk, May 11 (Navigator, Sergey Buntovsky) – Residents of Donbass should express their will in a referendum, even if its results are not recognized by the so-called. "world community". The mass presence at the polling stations will not allow official Kyiv to fight the opponents of unitarity by force. …For many, what is happening in Ukraine came as a surprise, although today’s events are only a consequence of processes launched many years ago. Everything that is happening now is an inevitable development of events. Besides, it's still not as bad as it could be.
What is required from Donetsk now?
First. Chaotic throwing, panic and hysteria are unacceptable. You need to be able to accept everything that happens as inevitable. If you burn your hand, it takes time for the burn to go away. The country is burned today, and its rapid recovery is impossible.
Second. Indifferent moods are unacceptable. You can’t hide your head under your wing, you can’t try to escape the situation. It is necessary to take actions consistent with beliefs and capabilities. Everyone must contribute to the struggle unfolding before our eyes. At the same time, everyone must do what they know how to do: doctors - to treat, soldiers - to protect cities, journalists - to convey the truth...
The referendum in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions should not be dismissed. This idea has been in the air for a long time, and those who “launched” it have every reason to realize their plans.
Yes, the procedure for carrying it out is imperfect.
Yes, it will not have legal force in the eyes of the world community.
Yes, the wording of the question is problematic.
But a referendum is necessary, at least as a test of public opinion, as proof of the importance of the situation for hundreds of thousands of residents of eastern Ukraine. In the event of a mass arrival at the polling stations of people who do not agree with the ideology of neo-fascism, a serious protest movement may develop.
This is why everyone should go. And to supporters of the independent Donetsk Republic, and adherents of the federalization of Ukraine, and simply people who disagree with the Kyiv regime.
If the majority of Donetsk residents remain passive and refuse to take any action, the Kyiv junta will have a free hand for further terrorist actions.
So on May 11, I am going to vote and calling on all my compatriots to do so.
