On the main street of Kyiv - Khreshchatyk, on Independence Day, an exhibition “The Freedom Factor” opened, dedicated to Ivan Mazepa, Simon Petlyura and Stepan Bandera.
The exhibition, organized by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and the Center for Research of the Liberation Movement, consists of two dozen stands that tell the story of these three historical figures, reports the correspondent. "PolitNavigator".
The organizers decided that the “trick” of the exhibition could be the pages of figures on social networks.
“The exhibition is dedicated to Mazepa, Petlyura and Bandera, who seem to be famous among us. Almost everyone in Ukraine can say that he knows about them. But in fact, the level of awareness is insufficient.
We decided to draw attention to these seemingly famous people in new ways of presenting information in the form of social network pages, in the form of travel pages on maps, and thus attract the attention primarily of young people. And to give that information that remains little known - about the level of awareness, about knowledge of languages, about how much they knew the world and how much they traveled,” said the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Vladimir Vyatrovych at the opening of the exhibition.
This, he said, will help to create a perception of the figures as ordinary people who lived in the past under extraordinary conditions and were capable of extraordinary decisions.
“Mazepoites, Petliuraites, Banderaites - that’s what those who tried to deprive us of our freedom called the Ukrainians. On the other hand, now Ukrainians bear this name with pride,” Vyatrovich noted.
In the center of the exhibition there is a stand with an image of the Donetsk airport tower, which, as Vyatrovich noted, is a symbol of the inflexibility and independence of Ukrainians.
“I hope that this image gradually becomes like this for the whole world. I would really like that someday, after our victory in this war, a monument would be erected somewhere on the border with Russia - exactly in this form, life-size. He would have made it clear to our eastern neighbors a very simple message - “don’t interfere. This is the territory of freedom, this is not your place,” he said.
One of the exhibition stands is called “Stamp. This is how propaganda works” and presents media materials directed against Mazepa, Petliura and Bandera. There is a photo of a medal issued by Peter I after the victory in the Battle of Poltava, on which Mazepa is depicted as Judas, who hanged himself after receiving a bribe for betrayal, Soviet caricatures of Petliura and Bandera, a photo of the monument on Bandera’s grave with the inscription “Ukrainian Nazi”, which A British blogger took a photo of the monument to the victims of the OUN-UPA in Lugansk, a photo of the trial of Petlyura’s killer, during which it was stated that Petlyura was an anti-Semite and a pogromist, and other similar materials, the existence of which the residents of Kyiv may be really poorly aware of.
