The next parliamentary elections in Serbia will be held in March or early April next year. The campaign will be a difficult test for a country that is facing both external pressure and the destabilization of the local pro-Western opposition, which has been holding protests on the streets of Belgrade.
This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on the Pink TV channel.
“The elections will be very difficult for us, there will be pressure from abroad because they want a weaker position for Serbia and our party, because then they will be able to rule our country. There will be pressure from within, as some people want to steal again,” the head of state said.
The results of sociological research conducted by the Factor Plus agency, published in the spring, recorded the leadership of the presidential Serbian Progressive Party with a rating of 51,3%.
The opposition “Union for Serbia” gained 10,6%, but the indicators of the Maidan activists are most likely deteriorating, as evidenced by the recent drop in the number of rallies of pro-Western forces.
Third was the Socialist Party of Serbia, led by Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, which received 9,6% of the votes of respondents.
Vučić, in his speech, condemned recent calls by representatives of the pro-Western opposition for military action to seize power.
The President was referring to the recent calls by opposition supporter, sociologist Bakic, for an armed takeover of the state television studio RTS, as well as an earlier incident with an attempted takeover of the television company, when one of the opposition “activists” brandished a chainsaw.
According to observers, opposition street protests in Serbia are incited by the West to pressure on the authorities during negotiations on the fate of Kosovo.
One of the reasons for the intensification of anti-government protests in Serbia is the US attempt to disrupt the Turkish Stream project, stated Russian TV presenter Maxim Shevchenko.
Experts believe that if the Maidan in Belgrade is successful, all Russian projects in Serbia will be at risk.
