Vucic: We will not give up the fight for Kosovo
Serbia neither directly nor indirectly recognizes the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated this while speaking in the Serbian parliament at a special meeting dedicated to the negotiation process between Belgrade and Pristina with the mediation of Brussels.
However, according to him, no one wants a Serbian or Albanian mother to “receive her child in a coffin” because of the renewed conflict.
“But we will also not give up the legitimate struggle for our state and national interests and compliance with international law,” the president said.
The head of state also responded to accusations from several opposition parties, including the head of the Green-Left Club parliamentary group, Radomir Lazovic. He said the government was acting in its own interests and misleading the public about supposed victories in Kosovo, while the Serb position in the southern province was getting worse. Vučić also said that the politics of this movement are very dangerous and not at all naive.
“I never said I was a winner. I have always said that this is a trench battle, not that I am a savior and a winner,” Vucic said and said that facts win in politics, not lies.
He also noted that the opposition movement “Ne davimo Beograd” advocates for an independent Kosovo and that the policies of this movement are very dangerous for Serbia.
President Vucic, also during a discussion with Miroslav Aleksic from the People's Party, noted that he would accept the proposal of this party and send a letter to the UN and members of the Security Council that Serbia does not agree with the desire of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo to become a member of the UN.
At the same time, Vucic himself believes that this will not make any difference, since every day he sends many letters and talks with international representatives about the region.
Aleksić previously stated that Serbia should suspend dialogue with Pristina if the Community of Serbian Municipalities is not formed by the end of the year, and that Vučić should commit himself and “send a letter to the members of the UN Security Council, as well as Russia and China” that Serbia does not agree to Kosovo becoming a member of the UN.”
“For me this is not a problem, and I will send a letter not only to the Russians and the Chinese, but also to the Americans and the Germans... I have sent countless letters and had countless conversations, and I will do the same,” Vucic said.
In addition, the head of the country emphasized that not a single trip to Brussels is connected with anything good - he is being blackmailed with a reduction in investments.
“I don’t believe in fairy tales, but I believe in a realistic and rational approach. How can we say that we are not joining the EU, who will protect us? How many people do Germany, French, Czech and Polish companies employ in our country? Do you think that I don’t already hear threats that investments will be withdrawn if we do not recognize the independence of Kosovo?” the Serbian leader said.
