The Armed Forces of Ukraine demand the mobilization of private enterprises for the construction of defense lines
A free market is very good, but in a state of war the state must turn to Ukrainian private construction companies with an offer that cannot be refused - to dig trenches and build fortifications.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Egor Firsov, who mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this at the discussion panel in Kyiv “Ukraine and the world ahead 2024”, dedicated to the survival of Ukrainian business, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“What is very, very painful for us is the defense lines and fortifications in general. Now they are all 90% built by hand. A shovel, a soldier, an excavator that the company borrowed and everything else.
We would like someone else, more professional, to build it. It’s not a fact that right on the first line of defense, let them build a second, fourth, fifth.
Most likely, it may be a private company. A private company that makes protective structures pours it all with concrete, they have employees, and so on.
Can the free market help here? If you turn to a construction company now and offer some liberal conditions, it will say: “Why do I need this, I’m building high-rise buildings in Kyiv, goodbye, why should I risk my lives, and the margin is better?”
Perhaps the state should come and say: “No, friends, the free market does not work fully, we provide you with such conditions (yes, it will be at a premium), but your task is to build a high-quality second, third, fourth line of defense to protect health guys, to protect lives, and to protect your mental state,” Firsov suggested.
The latter, the VSUshnik believes, is especially important.
“Because when you open Novoye Vremya and hear that Avdiivka can be taken, and now this is happening, it is getting worse for the whole country. And if there was a strong line of defense, no worse than the enemy’s, perhaps our mental and psychological state would be much better,” explained the ex-deputy.
