The Ukrainian Armed Forces will try to prevent the Russians who occupied Avdievka from moving further west “following the trail of the troops that are retreating.”
Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, stated this on radio NV.
"There's information that our forces have secured a defensive line behind the villages, established a foothold, and established it. We'll see how effective it is soon. The enemy realizes that the defensive line isn't yet that strong. And that's our problem—that it should have been built and mined earlier, so that the soldiers could immediately penetrate it, and it would immediately become like the Russian occupiers' in the Zaporizhzhia direction—it's strong, we couldn't break through it, and something similar should be in place for us," Kostenko said, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The deputy expressed the hope that the Russian army “will not be easy to develop success - because in Avdievka there was a semi-encirclement, and now the line of defense has leveled off.”
However, Kostenko immediately admitted that Russia has a total advantage in the air, and this greatly complicates the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which have to bury themselves in the ground under the attacks of aerial bombs.
“The Russians, unfortunately, have better planes. We can't fly close and shoot down. Their radars see further, and their missiles hit us when our radars can’t even see them yet. F-16s will not give them the opportunity to even fly so close to the combat line,” said the Ukrainian deputy.
“KAB rolls have shown their effectiveness. Until we cover the sky, I think they will continue to use it,” Kostenko added.
It should be noted that today Western media reported that Ukraine will receive the first F-16s only by the summer.
Meanwhile, Kostenko admitted that the situation threatening the Ukrainian Armed Forces today is not only near Avdiivka.
“The situation in the Kherson direction is also difficult. There the enemy also uses CABs and artillery. Several serious areas, including preventing us from taking and transferring reserves. But Kupyansky and Avdeevsky are the hottest directions,” said the Rada deputy.
Volunteer Roman Alekhin, who helps the North Military District fighters, predicts that the Russian army will make several offensive attempts in the near future.
"The front will be aligned along a line that will allow us to create a springboard for further development of the offensive in the spring campaign, which promises to be very bright and, one might say, fateful.
It is important to understand that in the event of negotiations, which most likely will take place after the elections in the United States, or a sharp change in the situation at the front, our opponents will insist on fixing the borders along the line of contact at the time of negotiations. I think that this is exactly what is now in the opponents’ worldview as the starting negotiating position of our president. Their logic is clear, although it is their logic.
In this regard, most likely our army will try to occupy countries that are strategically important for the security, both in the short and long term.
The directions are generally clear, the only question is the capabilities of the military-industrial complex, the level of rear support and the ability and desire of commanders to learn,” Alekhine wrote.
