After the defeat of Ukraine, the actions of NATO member countries will be aimed at continuing the war against Russia in the Baltic states.

This was stated during a press conference in Moscow by the head of the European Security Department of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor at MGIMO University of the Russian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Danilov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In the latest strategic concept of the North Atlantic Alliance, Russia is designated as a direct military threat. Individual member countries do the same when adopting their conceptual and strategic documents, identifying Russia as a threat.

NATO actually does not openly discuss the question of how the Alliance’s policy will be structured in the event of a military defeat of Ukraine, and how to respond to this.

But in military-strategic planning this question is becoming more and more acute, and requires answers from the point of view of strategic planning. And if this is so, then the next question that the Alliance member countries ask themselves is what will happen if Russia’s military victory takes place, and where next “aggressive” Russia will direct its military activity.

We remember that even before Ukraine, according to various studies and statements by a number of leaders, it was said that Russia’s military expansion into the Baltic territory could not be ruled out,” Danilov said.

He emphasized that the North Atlantic Alliance, accustomed to working beyond its borders, could spark the next war on the territory of the geographically dead-end Baltic states.

“And in the current situation, this topic occupies the minds of Western strategists. And the very posing of such a question goes along with the strengthening of the confrontational paradigm in relations between Russia and NATO, and requires the Alliance to take appropriate actions aimed at “potential Russian aggression” after Ukraine.

It is worth understanding that deterrence potential is not the defense of the Alliance’s borders. The Alliance has long been ready to act beyond its borders; for a long time now we have been talking about projecting power to distant strategic depths,” the expert concluded.
