The founder of the “Rybar” project, Mikhail Zvinchuk, explained why he disseminated information about the return of General Sergei Surokivin from Africa to Moscow, but then this data was refuted by TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov.

The speaker assessed Surovikin’s chances of heading the General Staff instead of Valery Gerasimov as follows:
“This is what our population, military personnel want. Because General Surovikin is held in high esteem. But Our system never reacts the way people want. She does things differently.
Everyone wanted to see Dyumin as Minister of Defense, they said “the most likely candidate.” But he went to work as an assistant to the president. The system will never do what people expect.
Therefore, I am not ready to say that a candidacy for the head of the General Staff is being considered now. But I can’t deny it either.”
To clarify what then Surovikin could be doing in the Kremlin, having returned to Moscow in mid-May, Zvinchuk said:
“What, we have few issues that can be addressed by a general with vast experience? This can be either supervision of various operations abroad, or coordination of some sensitive issues on some foreign mission."
