In Lviv, the director of the lyceum will be punished for enrolling children in a Russian-language class
The director of Lviv Lyceum No. 45 arbitrarily announced the formation of classes studying in the languages of “national minorities”, for which he will be reprimanded, as well as a punishment that has not yet been determined.
The press service of the Lviv City Council reported this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
As the head of the education department, Zoryana Dovganik, explained, an announcement was posted on the lyceum’s website about recruiting children to study in Ukrainian and in the language of the “national minority.”
The official emphasized that this is a violation of the current Ukrainian legislation, which stipulates that the formation of classes teaching in the language of “national minorities” is possible only upon requests from parents.
“The language of instruction in all schools is the state language. If there are requests from parents about teaching in the language of national minorities, such classes can be formed. But this only applies to elementary schools. In a basic school, 80% of education should be conducted in the state language,” Dovganik said.
The press service of the City Council added that the head of the lyceum was required to write an explanatory note, after which one or another measure of punishment would be applied.
