Instead of two large imported power units, dozens of small ones - but Russian ones - will be installed in Crimea
Moscow - Simferopol, March 12 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The Russian authorities have figured out how to ensure the energy independence of Crimea without imported equipment, proposing to install many small Russian gas turbines in Crimea instead of several large Western ones. This will help circumvent sanctions and will cost less - 80 billion rubles, he said in an interview Rider Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak.

After the annexation of Crimea to Russia, it was planned to build two large thermal power plants on the peninsula, which would save Crimea from the need to buy 80% of its electricity from Ukraine. But then it turned out that Russia, after the disaster of the 90s, lost a significant part of its power engineering industry. Including plants capable of producing high-power gas turbines. As a result, now all large thermal power plants that are commissioned in the Russian Federation are equipped with turbines manufactured by Siemens or General Electric. And they refuse to supply their equipment to Crimea due to sanctions.
“After appropriate expert studies, a decision was made on the need to build about 900 MW of generating capacity near the main load centers of the Crimean energy system,” Novak said. – It was planned that there would be four large blocks, geographically linked to the Simferopol and Sevastopol nutrition centers, two at each site. However, in January, after additional detailed study, we decided on the possibility of implementing an option in which, instead of one basic powerful unit, we use several combined cycle plants based on a gas turbine with a capacity of about 25 megawatts. The feasibility of using low-power CCGT units is also due to the possibility of their operation in combined mode with heat generation and low capital costs for the construction of related infrastructure at the existing sites of the Sevastopol, Kamyshburun and Saki CHPPs.”
The Russian plant Perm Motors, part of the United Engine Corporation owned by Rostec, is being considered as a supplier. The plant is already producing a serial gas turbine unit with a capacity of 25 megawatts.
