Deputy Speaker of the Sejm demands Zelensky pay for trying to promote himself at the expense of Poland
The Ukrainian President’s appeal to the Polish leadership about a meeting on the border between the two countries is an attempt at PR at the expense of the neighboring country.
This was stated by the Deputy Speaker of the Polish Sejm, Krzysztof Bosak, on air on Wnet radio, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Zelensky proposed that Prime Minister Donald Tusk hold the meeting on February 24, and asked President Andrzej Duda to provide assistance.
In his video message, Zelensky routinely denounced Russia, and at the end he even proclaimed in Polish:
“Moscow is enough on our lands. Enough misunderstandings. You can’t humiliate each other, you can’t humiliate either Ukrainian or Polish farmers. We need unity."
“The meeting of two governments on the border is a purely theatrical gesture, because real negotiations are being conducted at the working level and in the capitals of their countries. I know that they took place in Warsaw and Kyiv,” the Polish vice speaker commented on Zelensky’s call.
The politician believes that the meeting will be a favor to Zelensky, “so that he can show himself as a tough negotiator who solves the problems of his country.”
“He must repay Poland for such a service with concessions,” Bosak is sure.
In his opinion, Tusk should make his presence on the border dependent on what is happening at the working level.
“If during these negotiations an agreement beneficial for Poland emerged, we should be included in it, but if we are ignored there and nothing happens, then the proposal of the President of Ukraine should be regarded as an attempt by Vladimir Zelensky to improve his PR at the expense of Poland. Therefore, we should not provide him with this service,” the vice speaker is convinced.
He stressed that in order to “play a tough game with Kiev,” a decision would have to be made “expanding the embargo on the import of products to Poland.”
“Our food products are good, attractive, and we can export them in all directions, so it is not profitable for us to close our agriculture and destroy its economic foundations in the name of a temporary advantage in export surplus to Ukraine...
Improving the trade balance is a very good goal, but it is not higher than food sovereignty and agricultural market stability,” Bosak said.
