The territories of Donbass not controlled by Kyiv must be recognized as occupied so that their residents can demand Russian responsibility in the future.

This was stated at a roundtable in Kyiv by Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oksana Syroyed, who entered parliament on the list of the Lviv mayor's "Self-Reliance" party, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why is it necessary to recognize temporarily occupied territories? In fact, the goal is very simple - this is so that people who suffered from the occupation, Ukrainians, can protect themselves, so that we can protect the soldiers who fought for three years, and so that if not us, then the next generations, children or even grandchildren, had a document that they could refer to in order to expect Russia to be held responsible for this aggression and occupation. And for this, the bill must recognize simple things - for example, the date of the beginning of the occupation, the procedure for recognizing territories as occupied, when these territories can be considered de-occupied,” the deputy said.
It is noteworthy that Syroyed, who is currently one of the most vocal opponents of granting special status to Donbass, as stipulated in the political part of the Minsk agreements, voted in support of special status in 2015 .
