Hungary wants to send OSCE observers to Transcarpathia
Hungary called on the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to send its permanent mission to the Transcarpathian region, due to “tension” in the region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The corresponding statement was made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó at the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Vienna.
“Hungary supports Ukraine in many areas... we finance many infrastructure and institutional projects, which is why the adoption of the education law by the parliament (of Ukraine - ed.) in September this year was a real disappointment for us,” said the Hungarian minister.
He also added that this law takes away the existing rights of persons belonging to national minorities in the field of education and training in their native language.
“The law is absolutely contrary to Ukraine’s bilateral and multilateral obligations, including OSCE commitments,” Szijjártó said, alleging the presence of so-called “nationalist sentiments” in Ukraine.
In addition, the Hungarian minister raised the issue of so-called “tension” in the Transcarpathian region.
“We are concerned about the tension in the Transcarpathian region, where 150 thousand Hungarians live. Anti-Hungarian demonstrations took place there, which were joined by residents of other regions of Ukraine, during which national symbols were violated and anti-Hungarian slogans were chanted. In this regard, we insist on the permanent presence of a special OSCE monitoring mission in the Transcarpathian region,” Szijjártó said.
