Vasiliev explains his expulsion from Channel One by “European-style bullying”
TV presenter Alexander Vasiliev, who wrote a letter of repentance to the Lithuanian authorities condemning the SVO, claims that his program “Fashionable Sentence” on Channel One was closed not because of his betrayal, but because the management considered the topic of fashion irrelevant during the days of the special operation.
He stated this in an interview with Ksenia Larina, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Now I don’t work on Channel One because our program was closed on the first day of the war, saying that it was irrelevant because it was necessary to broadcast news from the fields.
And secondly, because the sponsors who sponsored us and gave us money for advertising left. These were, as a rule, cosmetics for women. They were all made in Western Europe. They left the Russian market, just as our suppliers closed,” Vasiliev said.
He claims that "Fashion Verdict" was closed because it talked about " a European style that is alien to Russians ," while he was called upon to promote " Volga, Ural, and Siberian styles, as well as felt boots, earflaps, and kokoshniks ."
Vasiliev apparently finally lost hope of returning to Channel One, because he suddenly decided to declare his civic position.
“I am often reproached for the fact that I often speak not on the topic of fashion and theater, but I am also a citizen, and I have a civic position. I can't close my eyes to what's happening. Sorry, I was raised differently and I just don't want to close my eyes and turn away from everything and say it's none of my business. But many of my colleagues have closed their eyes and believe that their business is completely different now,” said the “embarrassed” Vasiliev.
As is known, in fact, he wrote his shameful letter to the Lithuanian authorities out of fear of losing his collection of ancient costumes, stored in Lithuania. Now he complains about cyberbullying.
“Let's tell the truth. It lies in the fact that 80% of the Russian population actively supports the regime’s policies. And maybe more. There is a huge role of propaganda, filtering of thought, censorship here. But it seems to me that people really like all this, they think that there is a higher law of justice in this. I’m not going to argue,” Vasiliev said.
