In the Zhytomyr region, bandits tortured people for jewelry
In the Zhytomyr region, five members of a criminal group were detained, which committed robberies in three regions and an attempt on the life of a policeman, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by the Chairman of the National Police Sergei Knyazev, the Communications Department of the National Police of Ukraine reports.
“As the head of the National Police said, during the spring of this year, criminal police officers documented the criminal activities of a group that committed robbery attacks on citizens’ premises. The attackers acted boldly, entering the premises of citizens at night. They tied up their victims and tortured them. They operated in the Kiev region, Zhytomyr region and Vinnytsia region. Their goal was to seize cash, jewelry and other valuables,” the report says.
It is noted that in May, in the Kiev region, criminal police officers detained part of this criminal group while they were committing a similar offense. It is noted that those participants who were not detained began to threaten police officers, in particular, one of the employees of the internal security department of the Zhytomyr region and some employees of the criminal police; there were messages like “you will suffer for this.”
“A few days ago these threats turned into a real situation. The rest of this criminal group decided to commit the murder of a police officer. They mined his car with an improvised explosive device,” Knyazev added.
He clarified that a few minutes before the explosion, a policeman discovered traces of an explosive device, and the identity of the attackers was subsequently established.
According to the head of the NPU, on June 26, employees of the criminal police and internal security of Zhytomyr conducted about 40 searches, as a result of which material evidence was found of involvement in the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
