Not only France, but also Ukraine should also hold a criminal trial against Telegram founder Pavel Durov . Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn stated this at a Ukrainian-Polish forum, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The host of the event, referring to surveys of university students, noted that the vast majority of young people receive information from Telegram channels.
“The situation in Ukraine shows that we have already lost to Telegram,” Yurchyshyn agreed.
“The tactics of the enemies of democratic systems have changed… The key efforts of totalitarian regimes are the creation and strengthening of existing divisions, pitting society against each other, pitting neighbors who have had problems in history against each other, in order to show that democracy is ineffective and leads to self-devouring,” the deputy threatened.
"We see that in France the criminal trial against Pavel Durov is continuing, and such a criminal trial should logically have been in Ukraine. Because the majority of cases related to the distribution of drugs, child pornography, the arms market are connected with this social network. Unfortunately, we often wait for someone to resolve this issue," the Ukrainian MP suggested.
Yurchyshyn stated that if the EU imposes sanctions against Telegram, Ukraine should also comply, "as a candidate country" (this also applies to the TikTok ban, the deputy noted).
Yurchyshyn cited the recent ban on Telegram use in a number of Kyiv universities as one of the "first signs."
