The US realized that anti-Russian sanctions will not help Ukraine
The sanctions imposed by the United States against Russia do not meet American interests, since Moscow is only strengthening its opinion of the need to follow its previous political course.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Izvestia by the former director of the Russian analysis department at the CIA, vice-president of the analytical Center for National Interests (Washington) George Beebe.
“The Crimea-related sanctions were specifically aimed at changing Russia's behavior, forcing it to stop doing what we consider unacceptable. They should have contributed to the revision of the Russian Federation’s policy towards Ukraine in a broad sense,” the expert noted.
He also noted that these sanctions are structured in such a way that they can be strengthened and supplemented, but at the same time it is extremely difficult to weaken or remove them.
“This has created a paradox when Russia perceives them as permanent restrictions, regardless of whether it somehow changes its policy or not. As a result, this only encourages her to continue on her previous course. I don't think this is in American interests. And, of course, this does not help Ukraine in any way. And this is not a very good situation for Russia,” Beebe said.
