The US wants to spend stolen Russian money before negotiations begin
The West must spend all seized Russian funds before sitting down at the negotiating table with Moscow.
The US Assistant Secretary of State in 2005-2006, Stephen Rademaker, stated this at the Kiev Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is very important to have an international consensus and act together on issues of confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine.
Because the war will end someday, and there will be negotiations. I don't think the war will end with Russia surrendering to Ukraine; there will be some conditions. And we know what Russia will want in these negotiations – the issues of borders, Ukraine's membership in NATO and the EU.
But, essentially, they'll be asking for two things: an end to sanctions and a refund. Three hundred billion dollars, they haven't forgotten that. And they'll be tying the terms of ending the war to that," Rademaker said.
" And the best thing to say would be – it's too late, that's it, this money is gone . If this money remains available, it will be very difficult to resist Russia's demands," the American wisecrackingly said.
