The Federation Council no longer believes in a new round of war in Donbass
The promise of outgoing US Ambassador to Kiev Geoffrey Pyatt of new arrivals of American military aid to Ukraine in the coming days should not be regarded as a harbinger of an escalation of the situation in Donbass, says Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council.

“Firstly, Payette himself immediately noted that Washington does not see a military solution to the conflict in Donbass. Secondly, it was just noted in an article by The Wall Street Journal that the Pentagon sees no signs of an imminent large-scale offensive by Russian troops in Ukraine. That is, the likelihood of a conflict in the United States is assessed as very low,” Kosachev wrote on his Facebook page.
In his opinion, the ambassador’s mission is to periodically publicly reassure the Ukrainian public of Washington’s continued support for Kyiv.
“I am sure that Poroshenko himself also privately considers the military scenario with “all azimuths” fantastic. And raising the level of his rhetoric serves purely domestic political purposes. It is quite possible that he is really looking for ways to introduce a state of emergency or martial law in order, first of all, to overcome resistance in the Rada and increase his own popularity among the people, which has reached very low levels,” Kosachev suggested.
