The buses were transporting residents of Foua and Kefraya to government-controlled territory as part of an agreement to remove anti-government militia members from two enclaves in northwestern Damascus to militant-controlled Idlib.

All the dead, according to the Al-Masdar news agency, were civilians.

According to some sources, the explosion occurred as a result of a suicide bombing; according to others, a remote explosive device was activated.

According to the latest data, the death toll was 70 people, including 28 children.

Al-Masdar notes that no anti-government group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion, but notes that the Falaq al-Sham group opposed the deal.
