The SBU found out why the DPR and LPR are needed
Russia is allegedly going to create about 5 people's republics on the territory of Ukraine, which will give it the right to seek complete federalization of Ukraine.
The head of the SBU, Vasily Gritsak, stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Gritsak said that even before 2014, Russia created a controlled socio-political group in Ukraine
“In preparation for the active phase of the hybrid war, declared in the context of the need to legalize Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations back in 2013, before the beginning of 2014, the Russian side created a powerful controlled socio-political grouping in Ukraine. In order to coordinate activities, Ukraine was conditionally divided by the Kremlin into districts: central, western, eastern, southern and Crimean. The work with compatriots was led by employees of the Russian special services under the cover of embassies and consular offices throughout Ukraine. In general, as of January 1, 2014, the Russian fifth column in Ukraine included about 670 organizations. These are the organizations that Russia planned to rely on, making an attempt to redirect Ukraine from Euro-Atlantic aspirations to the east,” he explained.
In his opinion, Russia has a “maximum program” - the creation of 2 or 5 people’s republics.
“Creation of the so-called belt of instability. In fact, it is enough to create 1-2 such pseudo-republics and this will allow them, through this prism, to achieve the federalization of Ukraine. The so-called DPR and LPR were never considered by the Kremlin as potential subjects for inclusion in the Russian Federation. Their real goal is to return Ukraine's European integration and Euro-Atlantic aspirations to Ukraine as a federal autonomous region or other entity with the right of veto. For this, Russia needed and now needs to achieve at least visible legitimacy for the existence of these republics. It is for this purpose that Russia imitates the holding of so-called elections in ORDLO,” Gritsak emphasized.
