She proposes introducing a rule into Russian legislation prohibiting equating the actions of the USSR leadership with the actions of Hitler.
“I believe that if the editors in our publishing houses do not have enough intelligence, conscience and disgust to remove such passages, they need to be helped legislatively. It seems to me that we have the moral right to tighten the law when it comes to the desecration of our historical memory. I believe that it is necessary to introduce into the law “On the Perpetuation of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War” a provision prohibiting in public statements the identification of the goals of the decisions and actions of the Soviet leadership, command and military personnel with the goals, decisions and actions of the Nazi leadership, command and military personnel during Second World War. Identical moral assessments here, in my opinion, are absolutely absolutely unacceptable,” Yampolskaya said.
“I agree with your proposals, it needs to be done carefully, of course, but it must be done. If in some countries there are criminal penalties for denying the Armenian genocide, God himself probably ordered us to include appropriate mechanisms to protect the truth about the very recent past,” Putin replied.
Last year, the “historical” magazine “Dilentant” was published by the editor-in-chief of the liberal radio station “Echo of Moscow” Alexei Venediktov. came out with a caricature on the cover, where Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin are depicted as the bride and groom – which fits into the concept promoted by the West about the supposedly equal guilt of Nazi Germany and the USSR for the outbreak of World War II.
Venediktov then reported that some stores refused to sell the new issue of the magazine.
