This statement is contained in the address of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on the occasion of the Day of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“The feat of the “cyborgs” of the Donetsk airport will forever go down in the history of Ukraine, surpassing the glory of three hundred Spartans, the indestructibility and swiftness of the “Black Brigade”, the stamina, courage and invincibility of all soldiers - infantrymen, tank crews and artillerymen, representatives of other branches of the military, combat and logistics security, which, every minute risking their lives at zero, reliably stands in defense of not only their Fatherland, but also the entire democratic Europe,” Poroshenko said.
According to him, thanks to the successful actions of the ground forces, “the enemy’s advance deep into our territory was stopped and important settlements were liberated.”
“In contrast to the treachery of the Russian mercenaries, you contrasted your unshakable loyalty to the ideas of freedom and independence of your native land, the principles of people’s morality, national and universal values,” the appeal says.
Let us recall that the defeat at Donetsk airport in the winter of 2015 was one of the most painful defeats of the Ukrainian Armed Forces group in Donbass.
Nevertheless, Ukrainian propaganda managed to include this defeat in the top 10 greatest victories of Ukraine.
