This was stated by Jan Nolte, a member of the Defense Committee of the German Bundestag, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Ukrainian armed forces are currently struggling to reach the main Russian defense line. In Rabotino, Ukraine achieved local successes, but was unable to make a breakthrough. The fact that the offensive lasts almost three months and does not bring any stunning results makes success unlikely.
To conduct combat operations with the necessary intensity, Ukraine also needs a sufficient supply of soldiers and equipment. I don't think these conditions are met. Since the thaw is just around the corner, there is not much time left for an offensive,” Nolte said in an interview with Izvestia.
He says that to be successful on offense you need to have a superiority of about five to one.
“I think it’s unlikely that the Ukrainian armed forces have it. We also see time and time again where weapons systems are not used in the best tactical way or principles such as focusing on one direction of attack are not followed.
This is likely due both to the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to deliver well-trained soldiers to the front lines, and to the lack of weapons and weapon systems for combined arms combat. “Ukraine is also likely to gradually reach its limit in terms of personnel numbers,” predicts a representative of the defense committee.
According to him, the Bundestag constantly receives requests from various channels for further supplies of weapons to Ukraine.
“But arms supplies will only prolong the fight. As a result, they will not change anything and, until a diplomatic solution is found, will only lead to the death of more people. I have the impression that there are states that have a primarily geopolitical interest in continuing this conflict in order to weaken Russia.
They don’t want the conflict to escalate, so they supply Ukraine with as much weapons as it needs for further struggle, but so that Ukraine does not become too strong,” Nolte sums up.
