Five of the most dangerous Islamist sects remained in Crimea as a legacy from Ukraine
The most difficult and unresolved issue of the Crimean Tatars, remaining from the times of Ukraine, is the activity of religious sects.
The Mufti of the Muslims of Crimea and Sevastopol, Haji Emirali Ablaev, announced this to the First Sevastopol, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“For us this is the most difficult issue. First of all, these are religious sects. This is a “gift” left to us from the times of Ukraine. Under the cover of democracy, religious sects developed; at least five of them were created in our country: Wahhabism, Salafism, Hizb-ut-Tahrir, an organization recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation, Habashism, jihadism. Despite the thousand-year history of Islam in Crimea, our children were instilled with new trends.
Today, about 180 different nationalities live in Crimea. But, unfortunately, this virus is transmitted from one person to another. Sects cause great damage to our religion, language, and culture. National traditions are being destroyed. This is a big problem for us. We are fighting it. The state is supporting us in this matter.
Our task is to explain to young people, to educate them. However, we need even more support, be it Muslims or Christians. If we turn to the thousand-year history of our ancestors, we observe the religion inherited from our ancestors, then we will be able to solve this problem - there are no other ways. Today our biggest problem is sects,” the mufti emphasized.
In Crimea, not all mosques are under the supervision of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea. The process of transition from sectarianism to traditional Islam is ongoing as law enforcement officers work with supporters of Hizb ut-Tahrir, a political party banned in many countries around the world. Wahhabism and Habashism emerged in Crimea in the 90s, along with religious literature and preachers sent from abroad.
After the return of Crimea to the Russian Federation, the Hizbim were given two years to transition to traditional Islam. After which the adherents of the doctrine of the “World Caliphate” came under criminal prosecution.
