The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine expects to sue Russia over the next five years
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine predicts that the consideration of Ukraine’s claim against Russia in the International Court of Justice will take about five years.

This was announced by Deputy Minister for European Integration Sergei Petukhov.
“The practice is that the time required for the International Court of Justice to consider such cases is approximately five years. There are a lot of factual circumstances in this case that require proof of mass discrimination against residents of Crimea. Ukraine, in particular, argues that Russia’s deliberate policy in Crimea was aimed at the complete destruction of the Ukrainian language and culture, as well as the Crimean Tatar identity,” said Petukhov, who will represent the Ministry of Justice in The Hague.
The first hearings will be held from March 6 to March 9 and will be devoted to issues of securing the claim.
If a decision is made to ban such actions, control over its implementation is transferred to the UN Security Council, then the court will move on to consider procedural issues, and then to the essence of the case, the deputy minister explained.
Let us recall that on January 16, Ukraine filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, accusing Russia of violating the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
In particular, Kyiv demands that Russia be obliged to pay compensation, the amount of which is not specified in the lawsuit. In addition, the court is asked to bring to justice Russian officials who, according to the plaintiffs, are guilty of “supporting terrorism.”
The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice expects to sue Russia for the next five years.
