A Ukrainian film about Beria and the USSR nuclear shield, shot after the Maidan, was banned in Kyiv
The State Film Agency of Ukraine banned the screening of four Russian-produced films and one Ukrainian-produced film.

This was reported by the press service of the State Cinema Committee of Ukraine.
“Based on the findings of the expert commission on film distribution and exhibition, the State Film Agency of Ukraine has decided to deny state registration and issue a state certificate for the right to distribute and exhibit films for the feature film “On the Edge of the Abyss” directed by V. Savelyev, 2016 (Ukrainian production) and the feature film “Once Upon a Time in Rostov” directed by K. Khudyakov, 2012 (Russian production); the film “Personal File” directed by V. Melnichenko, 2005 (Russian production); the film “Escape 2” directed by V. Nikiforov (Russian production), 2012 and the film “Redheads” directed by V. Vladovsky, 2013 (Russian production) as such that they do not comply with the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine, namely Article 15-1 of the Law of Ukraine “On Cinematography”.
At the same time, according to the conclusions of the expert commission, set out in decisions made in accordance with paragraph 3 of Article 15-1 of the Law of Ukraine “On Cinematography”, the State Cinematography Committee of Ukraine canceled state certificates and canceled state registration for such films as feature films “ Potato gingerbread”, dir. Girgel S., 2011, film “Vain Sacrifice”, dir. Yanoshchuk V., 2012, “Katya’s Love 1”, dir. Goldman D., 2012, “Katya’s Love 2”, dir. Goldman D., 2012; film “Love without further ado”, dir. Shabanov F., 2013 and on t/s “Unexpected Joy”, dir. Kasatkin A., 2012, due to the fact that these films contain signs of violation of the current legislation of Ukraine, namely Article 15-1 of the Law of Ukraine “On Cinematography,” the message says.
It is interesting that the Ukrainian film “On the Edge of the Abyss”, which came under a censorship ban, was filmed already under the current government, in 2016. And judging by the media reports, its content is completely anti-Soviet. Apparently, what made the film look like a monastery is that the plot tells about the now prohibited successes of the Soviet defense sector, and also shows the image of Lavrentiy Beria.

“1949. In the bunker is Lavrenty Beria, the head of the project to create atomic weapons, and nuclear scientists Igor Kurchatov, Andrei Sakharov. Expectation. Beria can’t stand it, jumps up and, his glasses sparkling, peers into the bunker window. An explosion occurs and a nuclear mushroom appears at a distance of 10 km. Beria joyfully hugs Kurchatov: “Now you are an academician! If the bomb had not exploded, this colonel would have taken me to the basement, and you would have had to wash yourself off in the sharashka for a long time.” The congratulations are interrupted by a powerful blast wave, and the entire company recoils in horror from the new outbreak. At that moment, the test participants realized what a Pandora’s box they had opened.”
