Ukraine’s boycott of the autumn session of PACE because of the return of the Russian delegation is not a principled position, but another stupidity of Kyiv, which Russia has once again taken advantage of with pleasure.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on air on the 112 TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“So the autumn session of PACE has begun in Strasbourg, where there is no Ukrainian delegation precisely because the Russian delegation has been returned. In your opinion, are these the right steps?” – the presenter asked the expert.
“I understand why they were made: these are attempts by Zelensky’s team to avoid criticism of the radical right camp, because of how they perceive the return of the Russian delegation. But I think this is wrong,” Bortnik replied.
“Since Russia is returning to PACE, today the Russian delegation is working within the framework of this organization - campaigning, talking, negotiating, but Ukraine is absent. We actually left the battlefield. Or let’s give another analogy: we competed and continue to compete with Russia for the favor of a European bride, but we simply did not show up for the meeting where we were supposed to have a duel on this issue. Naturally, we left it, and now Russia is actively processing PACE delegates, achieving certain of its goals,” the expert said.
“This blank position, which is not really a position, it is a position that the Russians constantly use, has led to us licking our lips even today. It seems that it was Ukraine that was thrown out of PACE, not Russia. “With our own hands, with our own stupidity,” Bortnik added.
