Zelensky was denied in Kyiv - it will not be possible to hold elections in Donbass
Holding local elections in the uncontrolled territory of Donbass is impossible without its transfer to the control of Ukraine.
Andriy Magera, former deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission (2007–2018), announced this at a round table in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Magera, as of now there are no conditions for holding elections in the uncontrolled territory of Donbass in October 2020.
“We can talk about elections only when the complete de-occupation of the region has been carried out and the proper conditions have been created for the real expression of the will of citizens,” Magera said.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced the possibility of local elections throughout Ukraine (including Donbass) in October 2020, but only according to the laws of Ukraine.
“Our desire today is to hold local elections throughout Ukraine, including certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in October 2020. But it is impossible to do this without basic security and political conditions, violating the Constitution of Ukraine and international standards for democratic elections,” Zelensky said, speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
