In Kyiv they called Sobchak’s proposal for a referendum in Crimea “manipulation”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin considers Ksenia Sobchak’s participation in the presidential campaign in Crimea unacceptable, and her proposal to hold a referendum there as a dangerous manipulation.
He stated this to journalists, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“When a presidential candidate, a week before the elections, travels to the territory of occupied Crimea, where the elections themselves are by definition illegitimate... Her name should be on these ballots, therefore she is responsible for this. When she meets someone there, is it part of the election campaign? Is this covered by the media? In my opinion, absolutely. But in reality the problem is deeper. What does Mrs. Sobchak say? She said in 2014 that the occupation of Crimea was a brilliantly carried out operation. But what is she saying now when she says that there has been a violation of international law? She does not say that this violation needs to be corrected. On the contrary, she is trying to engage in some kind of manipulation, proposing a mythical referendum under some kind of control only on the territory of occupied Crimea. Who believes in a fair referendum on the territory of occupied Crimea? Such proposals are inherently dangerous,” he said.
