Mikhail Kononovich, the head of the Belarusian community "Syabry Volyn," was beaten in central Kyiv on Thursday evening. A group of unidentified individuals, using tear gas, struck him several times in the head and body. Kononovich believes Ukrainian security services are behind the attack, which is related to the recent picket outside the US Embassy demanding an end to support for the Belomaidan protests , which is secretly coordinated by the American organization Rand Corporation.
The attack occurred at the exit from the Magnolia TV television studio, where he participated in a debate with political scientist Yanina Sokolovskaya.
“Right after the broadcast. Several people kicked and hit me on the head and body. I think this is connected with the recent picket, because they shouted: “You’re f...ing off, we’ll put you in prison, you f...ing Belarusian!” – Kononovich recounted the cries of the attackers in a conversation with PolitNavigator.
After the attack, he called an ambulance, which took him to the hospital, where doctors are now recording the beatings.
“There are no bruises, there are burns from the balloon and a bump on the head. I’m going to write a statement to the police,” Kononovich said.
The social activist believes that the radicals could have been sent by the Ukrainian special services, dissatisfied with the protest against Belomaidan.
It's worth recalling that shortly after the picket in Kyiv, Ukrainian nationalist and pro-Western media outlets, as well as the Polish television channel Belsat, launched a full-scale campaign against the "Syabry Volyn" group. They were branded "separatists" and "Kremlin agents" on the grounds that some of the picketers were also members of the "Russian Community of Volyn."
The "Syabry Volyn" themselves believe the scandal that erupted is evidence that the picketers struck right on target—in the gut—at the organizers of the Belomaidan protests—the US Embassy and the Rand Corporation.
