In Sevastopol, a Book of Remembrance for Black Sea sailors who died in the Northern Fleet Military District is being prepared for Navy Day . This will be the first publication to commemorate the names of the deceased and the circumstances of their deaths, Sergei Gorbachev, Director of the CIS Institute in Sevastopol, announced at the "Great Russian Word" festival, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“This is the third year of the special military operation. At the previous Solovyov Readings we held a minute of silence in memory of the dead guys, then there were 127 of them, and now there are more than 200. The Book of Remembrance of the Sevastopol residents who died in the Great Patriotic War was recently completed. And we believe that there is no point in postponing work on the SVO.
I will not name the number of dead ships, injured ships, but I have certain information, as the assistant director of the 13th ship repair plant, where ships are treated. But there is a motive and meaning for us to grieve, and there is a meaning to fill the memory with specific content. Because memory is not something abstract, spiritual and emotional. Memory is material in nature, embodied in books, street names, squares, memorials, metal and stone,” he emphasized.

In Sevastopol, a Book of Memory of Black Sea sailors who died in the Northern Military District is being prepared for Navy Day. It will be...

According to the expert, in Sevastopol there is nothing memorable about the participation of the fleet in the First World War, nothing about the death of the battleship Empress Maria and other events. There are no memorial signs commemorating the sailors who died during the Cold War.

"We have nothing to commemorate Commander-in-Chief Gorshkov, a historical figure who led our fleet for 30 years. There was a memorial plaque at the fleet headquarters, but it disappeared after the headquarters' reconstruction. They wanted to install a plaque on the house where he lived on Sovetskaya Street. The authorities promised to name a park near Kazachya Bay after him, but nothing has been done. And when we began to think about the men who died recently, and the memory of that same "Moskva," we felt it was important to make this information public to some extent, so that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren wouldn't have to publish Books of Remembrance decades later , finding information in archives, asking local residents, and so on. Especially since 200 people are buried along the 5 km of the Alley of Glory, and in various places throughout Sevastopol as well. And even for these people, we couldn't find identification information—they're not all in one place. "And the obituaries that are published are general, not specific, often contain errors, and the dates of birth and death are mixed up. That's why our work has been a bit delayed. We'll finish it soon, at least before Navy Day," Gorbachev assured.

According to him, it will rather be a memorial directory with personal data, a description of the feat and those memorable places that are associated with these people.

"For example, Black Sea Fleet Deputy Commander Andriy Paliy has no grave. His ashes are scattered at sea. There's a bust of him on the Alley of Memory at the Higher Naval Military School. School desks and memorial plaques have been dedicated. We've tried to compile all of this into a book that will act as a database. I was told right away: we have to wait. I think we can't wait; we have to do it now. If we have to, we'll continue ," the speaker concluded.
