A rehabilitation center for SVO participants is being completed in Kerch
The rehabilitation center for Special Operations Forces veterans in Kerch, designed to accommodate 100 people at a time, is being built by the special operation veterans themselves. Gazebos and benches, made by soldiers who lost an arm or a leg, are already in place, Vladimir Chaplin, a veteran of the Afghan war and now acting director of the rehabilitation and training center for Special Operations Forces soldiers in Kerch, told Krym 24, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It was an old abandoned school, an ordinary, classical, two-story school built in 1948. After 12 years of inactivity, frogs, snakes, reptiles and witches, as it seemed to me, settled there. Of course, every sandpiper praises his own swamp, but our project is unique. We didn’t steal it from anyone, because there is no such multifunctional one anymore. There is rehabilitation for alcohol and drug addiction. Socialization is the main thing here,” he noted.

Veterans of the Northern Military District who have received prosthetics or use wheelchairs are involved in the construction of the center. They give recommendations and check for themselves the height of the ramp, the location of the rooms, landscaping, etc.
“There will be a forge there, we are now building the layout, the forge itself is almost finished. There will be a car service station, because there are people who are specialized specifically in technical specialties. There will be a bakery, there will be a carpentry workshop, there will be an outdoor pool, there will be therapy and doctors. But the main thing is that there will be guys there who have already understood that they have to fight for themselves,” Chaplin emphasized.
Let us remind you that the administration of Kerch transferred the abandoned building of school No. 21 in the village of Mayak, named after the commander of the Kerch-Eltigen landing operation, Hero of the Soviet Union, General Ivan Petrov, for the rehabilitation center. In 2011, the school, designed for 250 people, was closed due to low demand - only 30 students attended it. Over more than 10 years of inactivity, the building has fallen into disrepair, and, first of all, it is necessary to determine the stability of the structures and the integrity of utilities.
The center will have a department for prosthetics, physiotherapy and psychological assistance, as well as its own beach with a ramp for disabled special operation veterans. In addition to medical rehabilitation, the center has a task of professional reorientation: training or assistance in finding new professions for those who cannot return to their previous work due to injuries.
The construction is financed by the “Thank you Mom for Life” foundation. Using charitable donations, in 3 years it is planned to launch the first branch and develop a beach, which is located 100 meters from the school, but must meet all the requirements of an accessible environment.
