The State Duma proposed opening borders for citizens of the young republics
Restrictions on entry into the Russian Federation due to the spread of coronavirus should not apply not only to people with Russian citizenship, but also to residents of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and the Donbass republics.
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the measures taken, they seem to me to be adequate at the moment, and when I say “adequate”, this does not mean that I am exaggerating the significance of the coronavirus, it simply means that we must respond to public concern, among other things. I would just make an amendment to the decision to ban foreigners from entering Russia until May 1. I would make an exception for the Republic of Abkhazia, the Republic of South Ossetia, and residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. These people live in special circumstances.
Yes, among them there are citizens of the Russian Federation for whom this is not prohibited, but the decision was that, say, citizens of Abkhazia who do not have Russian passports should not enter. In the conditions of Abkhazia, it seems to me that this is a very formal decision, and it seems to me that it was made in a formal manner. We would have to understand what situation these territories are in and how they are developing,” Zatulin said.
