In the State Duma, Ze-gang was gouged again
Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee, sharply criticized the statement by Verkhovna Rada Speaker Dmitry Razumkov, who yesterday rejected the possibility of new territories escaping Kyiv's control due to the Ukrainian authorities' failure to respect the humanitarian rights of the local population.
“Violation of the rights of national minorities in Ukraine requires close attention of the international community. Today’s statements by Verkhovna Rada Speaker Dmitry Razumkov about the existence of “only one people in Ukraine” once again confirm that nationalist ideology, in fact, is firmly entrenched in the minds of government officials in Kyiv. This is a real mockery of a part of its own population that continues to speak and think, in particular, in Russian,” Slutsky emphasized.
“The laws on the exclusivity of the Ukrainian language and on education, adopted and signed under President Poroshenko, violate Ukraine’s international obligations regarding the implementation of such fundamental documents of the Council of Europe as the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. Moreover, those who fight for the right to teach children in their native Russian language - this is Donbass - continue to be persecuted with weapons in their hands.
And this doesn't just apply to Russian-speaking citizens. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin is absolutely right when he says that the situation with ethnic minorities in Ukraine is appalling. Fundamental human rights and freedoms are being consistently violated throughout the Council of Europe.
The Russian delegation intends to raise the issue of protecting national minorities in Ukraine in the very near future at the site of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. And here the reaction of PACE will become an indicator of the true support for democracy and European values,” the Russian parliamentarian concluded.
