If Russia does not want to participate in the negotiation process on Ukraine, there will be no negotiations at all, so Germany, France and “Nezalezhnaya” found themselves in the position of hostages to Moscow’s desires.
The anti-Russian German political scientist Andreas Umland said this on the Internet channel “Islnd”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“The Normandy format is the only thing Russia agrees to, but it would be better – Geneva, Budapest or something else,” he said.
In turn, presenter Vladimir Petrov noted that Ukraine, France and Germany are hostages of Russia’s desires within the framework of the negotiation process in the Normandy format.
“Now we are all: the Ukrainian president, the French president and Angela Merkel – hostages of the wishes of the president of the Russian Federation? In other words, he wants the Normandy format, so we can only have the Normandy format?” – asked the journalist.
“In this particular issue, yes. - Umland answered. – Because they will not come to another format. At the beginning of March 2014, a meeting took place within the Budapest format, to which Russia simply did not come.”
“If Russia is not there, then there will be no negotiations with Russia in another format. Until Russia agrees to another format, there will be no other format,” added the German political scientist.
