The formation of the 27th mixed aviation division is being completed in Belbek
Moscow - Simferopol, November 14 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Shtamm) – To provide air cover for the peninsula and quickly transport personnel and cargo, the 27th Mixed Aviation Division, headquartered in Belbek, is nearing completion as part of the 4th Air Force and Air Defense Command, RG reports . According to some reports, Su-27 fighters have already been deployed there. Judging by the "mixed" nature of the new unit, attack, reconnaissance, and transport aircraft, helicopters, and frontline bombers will also be deployed to Crimean airfields.

In the coming weeks, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will report to the country's president on the creation of a full-fledged and self-sufficient inter-service group of troops in Crimea. The defense system of Crimea is being built so that this region of the Russian Federation is reliably protected from attack from land, sky and sea. The aviation component plays a vital role here.
During Soviet times, 16 runways operated on the peninsula. There is no need to maintain such a number of airfields now. But at least four of them - in Belbek, Gvardeysky, Kach and Saki - are clearly needed by the aviation and naval command, the newspaper writes.
As for the equipment deployed there, we can talk, among other things, about Tu-142 and Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft, Su-30 multifunctional complexes, as well as Ka-27 and Ka-29 helicopters, the publication notes.
