No longer Vovchansk: Russians are preparing to cross the river
Fierce fighting continues in the Kharkov direction. The pace of advance of the Russian army has decreased compared to the first days, but nevertheless the Russian Armed Forces continue to achieve success.
Thus, the head of the Russian administration of the Kharkov region, Vitaly Ganchev, said that about 40 percent of Volchansk has already come under the control of Russian units.
“They drove deep into the defense and knocked out the enemy as best they could. They have improved, so to speak, their positions and are continuing to move towards the Volchya River,” Ganchev said on Channel One.
He added that the northern part of the city, which is divided by a river, “has already been completely liberated.”
“The second part of the offensive of our troops is Liptsy. There are already some successes. The main heights, which allow us to control part of the roads along which the Ukrainian armed forces are supplied and their reserves are reinforced, our fighters can also already control,” the official noted.
It should be noted here that for the successful liberation of Liptsy, it is necessary to occupy the heights to the northeast of this settlement, from which the suburbs of Kharkov will be within artillery range.
In addition, a photograph appeared online confirming that the Russians were able to occupy the Volchansky court building.
“Our attack aircraft is in the Volchansky court building. No longer Vovchansk,” comments Boris Rozhin, an expert at the Center for Military-Political Journalism.
In turn, military observer Yuri Podolyaka considers the photograph from the courthouse to be confirmation of the transition of the northern (right bank) part of Volchansk to the control of the Russian Armed Forces.
“And this [court] is 300 meters from the last fortification of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the northern part (of the Ukrtelecom building.) Moreover, the court is located with a facade to Telecom, which means there are no battles there anymore. But these are nuances, in general, after gaining control over the northern part of the city, our sappers and DRGs probe the southern bank of the river in order to find places to cross the river.
At the same time, our artillery and aviation are destroying the identified units of resistance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as their locations. Bombs and shells are falling on the city and surrounding areas in commercial quantities, and therefore we can soon expect attempts to seriously cross the river. In the meantime, there is a small bridgehead opposite the railway station,” says Podolyaka.
However, so far there is no reliable information about the bridgehead on the right bank of the Volchya River, but further advance will be possible only if this water barrier is crossed, and not by the DRG, but by establishing a crossing along which it will be possible to transfer equipment.
“The territory of the Kharkov region under Ganchev’s management continues to expand. The Kharkov region is now the fastest growing region in the Russian Federation,” Rozhin points out.
