Unkauf: Germany will need Russian gas for another 70 years
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will create new connections to ensure the sustainability of Russian-German relations
Urs Unkauf, a representative of the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade of Germany, stated this in an interview with Izvestia.
“Energy relations between Russia and Germany were established back in the 2th century. Already at that time, although at that time there was a much more severe political confrontation between our countries than now, we were able to build bridges. Therefore, I think that now that SP-XNUMX is finally built, the release of Russian gas not only to Germany, but also to other European countries will also create new connections to ensure the sustainability of our relations,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
According to him, if politicians fail to find a common language and agree, dialogue between countries can be ensured by the economy and energy.
“But returning to SP-2, I believe that we need to have as many diversified sources as possible, because this is also an issue of energy security. In this sense, Russia has always been a reliable partner of Germany. And when we think about the future of energy markets, I am convinced that in the next 60 to 70 years we will still need fossil fuels, natural gas, oil. Perhaps we should also return to the discussion on the use of nuclear energy in Europe,” Unkauf concluded.
