Ukrainian peacekeepers liked it in Africa - they are going there for the 11th time
In the city of Novy Kalinov in the Lviv region, celebrations were held as part of the planned 11th rotation of personnel of the Ukrainian national contingent of the UN stabilization mission in the DRC – the 18th separate helicopter detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a correspondent reports. “I am confident that our rotation will continue the traditions of hundreds of our brothers who carried out missions on a distant continent. Their tenacity in service earned them well-deserved respect among the contingents of the UN Mission, and their tireless work among the civilian population. I believe that all the tasks assigned to us will be completed flawlessly, because we have everything for this - professionalism, psychological stability and physical training,” Colonel Muhammad Bulanbaev noted, speaking to the audience, reports the ArmyInform news agency of the Ministry of Defense.
More than a hundred servicemen of the first group of Ukrainian peacekeepers went to the Lviv International Airport named after Danylo Galitsky, from where they flew by military plane to the city of Goma.
Let us note that the Ukrainian contingent has already arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo on board a heavy military transport aircraft IL-76. At night the plane landed in Egypt to refuel.
After the ceremonial formation, more than a hundred military personnel of the first group of Ukrainian peacekeepers went to the Lviv International Airport named after Daniil Galitsky.
The publication notes that all 250 military personnel who will serve in tropical climatic and sanitary-epidemiological conditions have received the necessary vaccinations.
Since 2016, 250 Ukrainian peacekeepers have been serving in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In November 2018, military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as part of the UN peacekeeping forces, took part in Operation Scorpio to eliminate militants from the ADF group. Over the course of a month, the crews of the 18th helicopter detachment completed 124 missions to engage ground targets.
The operation involved army special forces from Guatemala and Tanzania, infantry battalions from the Republic of Malawi and the Republic of South Africa, as well as Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Oryx of the South African Army.
