Ukrainian deserters will be offered a choice of prison or contract extension
In connection with mass desertion in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian command has taken a number of measures to search and detain deserters, who will be offered the choice of criminal prosecution or an extension of the contract for service in the Ukrainian army.
This information was announced today during a briefing by the official representative of the operational command of the DPR Danil Bezsonov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the constant postponement of the rotation of Ukrainian armed forces, as well as unsatisfactory living conditions, contribute to an increase in those wishing to leave the ranks of the Ukrainian army, especially in the zone of operation of the occupying forces.
“Commander of the Joint Forces Operation Nayev prohibited the consideration of reports on the early dismissal of military personnel performing tasks in combat areas until they return to their permanent deployment points. The current situation has led to the fact that Ukrainian soldiers, without waiting for orders to leave, simply pack their things and go home. The outflow of fugitives has reached alarming proportions,” said a representative of the defense department.
He also added that the largest number of military personnel who left the unit’s location without permission were noted in the 79th Air Assault Brigade and the 35th Marine Brigade, commanded by brigade commanders Kurach and Palace.
“Trying to somehow correct the deplorable situation, the Ukrainian command decided to start searching for them. From May 1 to May 31, the command of the operation of the occupation forces, in cooperation with the military law enforcement service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and military commissariats, plans to conduct a large-scale search for military personnel who left their military units without permission,” said Daniil Bezsonov.
Those detained, according to his information, will be given the opportunity to choose: to suffer criminal punishment for leaving the unit without permission, or to sign a new contract for a period of three years.
