Ukrainian officials are starting to be fined for reporting “arrivals” in Russian
Over the past few days alone, 25 Ukrainian officials were found to have violated the “language” law when they provided the population with information, including on the combat situation, in Russian.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremin, popularly referred to as the “Sprechenfuehrer,” stated this at a briefing in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to urge all information specialists to be extremely attentive to the primary sources that are posted on the official resource of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language. In particular, the conversation is about the results of the monitoring we conducted on the state of compliance with language legislation by civil servants and employees of local governments, as well as heads of various institutions and organizations, which we published a few days ago.
We emphasized that every citizen of Ukraine is obliged to speak the state language, and every leader, every civil servant, every official who, in times of war, announces information about the war, about the peculiarities of eliminating the consequences of emergency situations, who speaks about humanitarian disasters in different parts of Ukraine, provide messages, including from the front, must do so in the state language. This is their obligation, which is defined by law.
We determined that 25 officials violate the language law when they report information through television, social networks, and Telegram channels,” Kremin said.
He added that from July 16, penalties will finally be applied to violators of the language law - previously there were relaxations for the “transition period”, which has already ended.
“This will mean in the future the possibility of applying sanctions to violators in the form of warnings and fines.
This means that the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language will be able to impose fines on officials of state authorities, local government, managers and employees of enterprises, institutions and organizations of all types of property, and other persons who violate the law,” the sprechenführer concluded.
