Ukrainian court leaves free the soldiers who tortured a Donbass resident to death
A sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine got off with a suspended sentence, for in the summer of 2016 he gave the command to two of his subordinates to illegally seize a civilian resident of the Donetsk region and torture him into confessing to espionage for the DPR, from which the man later died.
This was reported by the publication "Glavnovosti" with reference to the verdict issued on the eve of the May holidays of 2017 and published in the Judicial Register of Ukraine.

The tragedy occurred on June 30, 2016 in the village of Zaitsevo, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region. The sergeant at the trial said that the owner of one of the houses told the intelligence officer that her partner was collecting information about the locations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
As soon as the man returned home, they tied his hands with tape behind his back, threw a bag over his head, put him in a car and took him to the unit’s dugout in order to conduct a “test for separatism,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The sergeant assures that in the military unit the man was intimidated, beaten in the face with a palm, and hit on the heels with a stick. Having failed to obtain a confession from the prisoner, the commander went to bed.
And after a while his subordinate soldiers discovered that the prisoner had no pulse. They quietly carried out the corpse with its hands tied with tape in a raincoat, threw it into the car, and then took it to an open field along the highway to Bakhmut. So they left us with the tarpaulin.
The body was discovered only a few weeks later.
The criminals were found by the markings of the raincoat.
The sergeant who gave the order for the illegal detention and torture of the deceased got off with three years probation. This verdict was handed down by the Artemovsk City District Court at the end of April.
