Ukraine can gain economic independence from Russia only by submitting to the interests of American energy corporations. Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Popular Front Sergei Vysotsky stated this during the round table “Energy Security of Ukraine,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We cannot talk about securing Ukraine if the interests of international players are not represented in it. I'm talking about the United States because it is the only country that can give real, and not fictitious, security guarantees on the globe.
Therefore, I think that talking about a consortium ( for managing the Ukrainian Gas Transportation System, – ed. ) only with European partners is a mistaken position.
We are talking about replacing the Kremlin business in the Ukrainian energy sector, we must understand that every American corporation that comes here with investments in the “pipeline”, storage facilities and gas production - unlike the situation when now a Russian citizen - Mr. Fuchs for some reason receives some kind of licenses from us... I don’t understand why on earth our state gives Russian citizens some kind of licenses in Poltava and Kharkov region...
Therefore, if the large corporate interests of the United States are represented here, then we will have a lobbyist on Capitol Hall, that is, corporations that have influence on politics, can shape the agenda in Washington and may have an interest in Ukraine being an institutionally capable state , and, most importantly, an independent state, including from Kremlin influence,” said the Maidan deputy.
