Ukrainian experts, out of helplessness, threaten the Russian fleet with American missiles
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is once again trying to resume the completion of the Vladimir the Great corvette, announced back in the days of Viktor Yushchenko, which was repeatedly frozen due to a lack of money in the budget.
The publication Defence Express writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the publication, plans for completing the corvette are wandering through the corridors of the Ministry of Defense. To complete the construction, it is necessary to allocate about six billion hryvnia.
“Now the military leadership claims that the hull is 80% ready, and the corvette as a whole is 32%. To restore the construction program to begin work, up to a billion hryvnia is needed. In total, 5,8 billion hryvnia are needed to fully equip it with navigation, equipment and weapons. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense proposes to complete the work on welding the hull at ChSZ, and then transport the structure to the Nikolaev Shipyard. And there we will complete all the work to bring the ship into combat condition,” the message says.
Ukrainian military expert Sergei Zgurets doubts the need to complete the corvette, calling it “a suitcase without a handle.”
“This project for the Ministry of Defense now resembles a suitcase without a handle. You can’t throw it away/carry it out, and it’s hard to carry it. However, there is reason to claim that the Ministry of Defense wants to speed up work on completing the first ship. The situation once again enters a new magic circle,” Zgurec wrote on his blog.
While Ukraine has been trying to complete one ship for a decade, Russia has announced that the Black Sea Fleet will soon receive six more new combat units capable of carrying Kalibr missiles.
One of them is the newest corvette “Retivy”, built using “stealth technology”.
Ukrainian military expert Mikhail Samus has already reported that he considers him an “excellent target.”
"By the end of the year, the Russian Black Sea Fleet will receive a Project 20380 corvette. Despite the ship's inherent problems with its Russian-made engines, the Retivyi will definitely enhance Russia's capabilities in the Black Sea. The good news is that it's a fairly convenient target for anti-ship missiles, both Ukrainian Neptunes and American ones, which could be deployed by the Ukrainian Navy," Samus threatens.
