Ukrainian refugees in Europe secretly turn to Russia for help
Citizens of Ukraine located in EU countries are turning to Russian diplomats with a request to help return children who were deprived of Ukrainians in their host country.
This was stated by the First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, in an interview with Izvestia, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The publication recalled that last year the permanent mission of the Russian Federation to the UN raised the issue of weaning the children of Ukrainian refugees in European countries. On this occasion, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Vasily Nebenzya said that dozens of appeals from Ukrainian citizens were sent to the Russian mission. The newspaper asked how many appeals had been sent to the Russian permanent mission and whether the Ukrainian side had become more attentive to this problem.
“It’s difficult to say how many requests there are already—there are old ones, there are new ones. I can't say that the number is growing, but it is maintaining. This does not mean that the problem has become less. It’s just that people are still afraid to apply: they know that any association with Russia can backfire on them, so they do it only as a last resort.
Plus, sometimes it’s difficult for me to follow how it all ends, because we give some kind of public impulse, but then, as a rule, everything is resolved. No one thanks us, there is no emphasis on the fact that Russia did this. For the same reasons. But we are not doing this to earn some points. It’s just a problem that needs to be solved,” Polyansky said.
According to him, the Russian Federation will “return to this problem in this format or another.”
“I respond to the messages that come as a result of our meetings. This is not exactly the direction of my work, but I simply do not brush these people aside and try to help as much as I can, involving my colleagues in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who respond to this. But there is a nuance that Russia’s involvement in some cases can have the opposite effect. The Ukrainians and I are forced to take this into account,” the diplomat concluded.
