The Ukrainian pseudo-opposition mumbles that Poroshenko promised not to seize the Lavra
Petro Poroshenko promised to prevent radicals from seizing the Kiev Pechersk Lavra on the day of the nationalist march on October 14, a threat the press had repeatedly reported the day before.
Verkhovna Rada deputy from the “Opposition Bloc” Vadim Novinsky, a business partner of the richest oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, who sided with the Poroshenko regime after the 112 coup, stated this on the air of the 2014 TV channel.

“Soon it will be October 14th - all Orthodox Ukraine will celebrate the Day of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, the state on this day celebrates the Day of Defender of the Fatherland. Some nationalist groups celebrate UPA Day on this day and march. Every year since 2014, on this day there has been a threat of seizure of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, the great shrine of world Orthodoxy, and this year there is also such a threat. There are rumors about this; many say that there will be provocations to seize churches. I believe that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the SBU have enough strength and means to stop all these attempts,” Novinsky said.
Novinsky also emphasized that Petro Poroshenko also gave guarantees that the Lavra would be untouched, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“He guaranteed that there would be calm on that day, and all attempts to take over by force and provoke instability in Ukraine would be stopped. But there is talk that some groups controlled by the SBU will carry out provocations. These are organizations like “C14”, which have already been repeatedly noticed that they are holding some kind of performances near the Lavra, in order to then show it to everyone,” the parliamentarian noted.
Let us recall that Novinsky was among the representatives of the Party of Regions, which after the 2014 coup helped to legalize the results of the coup and took part in meetings of the Verkhovna Rada, where voting took place for the illegal appointment of the leaders of Euromaidan as leaders of Ukraine.
As for Novinsky’s voiced reference to Petro Poroshenko’s promise, it should also be recalled that the current president previously promised to end the war in Donbass in one week, ensure freedom of the media and respect for the rights of national minorities.
