Ukraine had to stop pumping gas into storage facilities
Naftogaz of Ukraine is again dissatisfied with the actions of Gazprom, which since Tuesday has sharply increased its request for gas transit through Ukraine due to repairs on both strings of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, Kommersant writes.

The publication notes that the application increased by 20 percent, to 275 million cubic meters per day, but at the same time the Ukrainian side complains that Gazprom did not sufficiently increase the pressure at the entrance to the Ukrainian gas transmission system, after which, most likely, Ukraine was forced lift your own gas from storage to maintain transit.
“To ensure this pumping, it is necessary to stop the current pumping of gas into underground gas storage facilities, which is extremely undesirable... Russia is doing all this in order to show the EU that Ukraine is a weak transit partner. They will say this: they couldn’t provide transit in the summer, but what will happen in the winter?” a source close to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine told the publication.
At the same time, the newspaper’s sources in Gazprom say that “the volume of gas supplied to the entrance to the Ukrainian gas transmission system fully corresponds to Gazprom’s application for the current day,” and also claim that the need to maintain pressure in the system is “the problem of the transit country.”
The situation for Kyiv is aggravated by the fact that in this case the relations of the parties are not regulated by existing agreements.
“According to the transit contract, Gazprom must receive the same amount of gas at the exit from the Ukrainian gas transportation system every gas day as it provides at the entrance. At the same time, physically moving gas along the main transit route through Ukraine takes more than a day (36 hours), that is, with sharp fluctuations in volumes, the Ukrainian side is forced to release its own gas at the exit. The maximum and minimum daily volumes for each entry and exit point of the GTS are stipulated in the annually concluded technical agreement, which is attached to the contract. But, apparently, no such agreement has been concluded for this year, Gazprom in this case operates in a “gray zone,” and Naftogaz’s references to “contractual pressures” can hardly be confirmed legally,” Kommersant points out. .
